(Ita-Eng) Una famiglia succosa / A jucy family

After leaving the province of Bari in the late morning, I arrive in Palagiano, in the province of Taranto, in the afternoon; The Pietricola family is waiting for me to accompany me on their plantations of red and juicy tarantine oranges and immediately they explain to me how much they're proud about the characteristics of this fruit which is part of the famous citrus fruits of the Gulf of Taranto. "Navel orange, also called "Navelina", is a very juicy type of orange that is mainly used for juices and salads and it is better to taste it raw because it is a real triumph of taste and juice; this reason children like it very much and in fact are very suitable for feeding children "

Father and son work together in the orchards where cultivation is strictly organic; while they pick the oranges they tell me that the harvest takes place from the end of October and continues until March. "We cultivate 12 hectares of land in complete biological regime and we do it all working in the family; the 12 hectares are cultivated half with citrus grove (navel and tarot oranges, lemons, clementines), for the other half with orchard (apples, black cherries , plums, cherries), olive grove and almond grove "

The son explains to me that this variety of orange originated in a Brazilian monastery from the first half of the 1800s. "The peculiarity of this type of orange is that it gives life to a second orange, which grows like a twin within each fruit . If you look at the orange outside you see a sort of protuberance which recalls the navel which in Portuguese is called navel"

consistenza ineguagliabili"

This company is proud to be able to maintain the family management, which has the aim of producing, with passion and professionalism, healthy foods free of synthetic chemical residues and minimizing the environmental impact of their business. "Our land as all that of the Taranto basin has received the benefits of the proximity of the sea for centuries; due to its particular location, between the hills and the plain of the Gulf of Taranto sloping down to the sea, the mildness of the Mediterranean climate combined with soil fertility, allows to obtain superior quality citrus fruits appreciated all over the world for their incomparable flavor "

This NOT! BLOG ® was born thanks to my professional background and the travels that my job entails (LINK) ; on the homepage you will find posts with images, videos and stories that I make while traveling in search of healthy lands and loyal producers, locating them on the HEALTHYSOILMAP® because I am firmly convinced that "the gesture of healthy and proximity shopping" can save us by making us avoid immaculate and perfect foods in commercials but that their production, storage and distribution do not contribute to the good of our health, to that of soil and therefore the environment. The "MADE TO SUSTAIN" page contains a list of unique pieces that I create with reclaimed wood, especially pallets, thanks to a playful "nonsense style"; I do it in a sustainable way by building and working them by hand, coloring them with flame or thanks to natural pigments extracted through alcohol or water from spices, fruit, vegetables and vegetable waste: the finish is done with linseed oil. If you book one, your welcome contribution will support the travel and labor costs required to give continuity to the independent and bottom-up rural project of this site.
