It's born and grows in the humid and muddy areas often beside the rivers, as here in Carignano city, situated in the Turin province, where today I am; near the banks of the Po river, the elders cultivate this very resistant tuber and with its infinitive properties, as Roberto explains me. He organizes the largest exhibition dedicated to this strange fruit of nature right in the Carignano city: this strange tuber is the Jerusalem artichoke (Topinambur) here so-called "Ciapinabò" .

Roberto explains to me that this crop has a specific need for a humid environment but needs absolutely no maintenance during its growth which is very high and the particularity is that all plants end with a yellow flower up on the tip and when the flower fall down to the land, it's time to pck the tubers

This very special fruit of nature can be eaten both raw and cooked and used above all for the preparation of a typical Piedmontese dish called "Bagna Cauda". "At the beginning of the century these strange tubers were more widespread than potatoes and were appreciated especially in times of famine or war precisely because they were everywhere along the river Po. Their flavor can be compared to artichoke flavor and like the artichoke they contain a high quantity of inulin which has many advantages for our wellbeing and our body, you have to know Furio, that the Jerusalem artichoke so-called here Topinambur or Ciapinabò, due to the considerable presence of inulin, is used by a pharmacy in our country to produce a particular body cream really effective"

The Jerusalem artichoke, has an impressive quantity of properties and the soil, if respected, once again besides creating an aliment so rich in properties, thanks to the work of the peasants manages to draw the morphology of the landscapes, the shapes and colors that unfortunately we have forgotten: let me say that the soil is a palette of colors and that rural people continuing to work the soil in a natural way and respecting it, complete the work as in this case: where you'll see that yellow flower, you'll find a Jerusalem Artichoke (Topinambur).

This NOT! BLOG ® was born thanks to my professional background and the travels that my job entails (LINK) ; on the homepage you will find posts with images, videos and stories that I make while traveling in search of healthy lands and loyal producers, locating them on the HEALTHYSOILMAP® because I am firmly convinced that "the gesture of healthy and proximity shopping" can save us by making us avoid immaculate and perfect foods in commercials but that their production, storage and distribution do not contribute to the good of our health, to that of soil and therefore the environment. The "MADE TO SUSTAIN" page contains a list of unique pieces that I create with reclaimed wood, especially pallets, thanks to a playful "nonsense style"; I do it in a sustainable way by building and working them by hand, coloring them with flame or thanks to natural pigments extracted through alcohol or water from spices, fruit, vegetables and vegetable waste: the finish is done with linseed oil. If you book one, your welcome contribution will support the travel and labor costs required to give continuity to the independent and bottom-up rural project of this site.
